Geartrain (Mechanical) Design Engineer - Tulsa, OK - 1 opening

Job Description:

Performs detailed Power Take Off (PTO) component and assembly design under the tutorship of a senior engineer to improve existing designs and create new ones to meet evolving customer needs. Works closely with manufacturing and purchasing to achieve product performance and cost goals including cost reduction, warranty reduction and design for manufacturability. Participates in the product verification process through authoring of test and analysis requests and cooperates with test engineers in the evaluation of test results. Evaluates field failures for root cause and establishes corrective action and/or product design improvements to address those causes.

Duties include:

  • Creates new product designs to meet evolving customer needs
  • Defines detailed geartrain component specifications including spur and helical gearing, splined shafts, intricate castings, and bolted and gasketed joints including materials, finishes and heat treatment specifications
  • Selects standard products including rolling element bearings, bushings, snap rings, springs and seals to meet performance and cost goals and defines technical supplier selection criteria
  • Defines geometric tolerances and performs detailed tolerance stack up analyses
  • Calculates component stresses and lives
  • Leads and documents thorough design reviews by multi-disciplined teams
  • Creates three-dimensional models of simple and complex assemblies
  • Creates two-dimensional component and assembly drawings
  • Generates bills of materials and engineering release documentation

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Two to five years experience in product design, test or development
  • Proficient with three dimensional modeling software such as AutoCAD Inventor
  • Proficient with PC based design tools such as TK Solver and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Detail oriented and well organized
