Geartrain Design Engineer - Tulsa, OK -1 opening

Muncie Power Products, the industry leader in Power Take-Offs and mobile power components to the truck equipment industry has an immediate opening for a Geartrain Design Engineer. This position will be based in our Tulsa, Oklahoma location and will be responsible for performing detailed Power Take Off (PTO) component and assembly design under the tutorship of a senior engineer to improve existing designs and create new ones to meet evolving customer needs. Contributing to the new product development process by cooperating with the sales and product planning functions to clearly define new product performance, cost and schedule metrics and then designs products and analyzing existing designs against those objectives. Working closely with manufacturing and purchasing to achieve product performance and cost goals including cost reduction, warranty reduction and design for manufacturability. Participating in the product verification process through authoring of test and analysis requests and cooperates with test engineers in the evaluation of test results. Evaluating field failures for root cause and establishes corrective action and/or product design improvements to address those causes.

Other duties include creating new product designs using current product components and new designs to meet evolving customer needs. Defining geartrain component specifications including spur and helical gear involute geometries, tolerances, finishes, materials and heat treatment. Selecting standard products including rolling element bearings, bushings, snap rings, springs and seals to meet performance and cost goals. Designing intricate castings, bolted joints and gasket systems. Defining geometric tolerances and performing detailed tolerance stack up analyses. Calculating component stresses and lives using established methods. Leading and documenting thorough design reviews by multi-disciplined teams. Creating three-dimensional models of simple and complex assemblies. Creating two-dimensional component and assembly drawings. Generating bills of materials.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in mechanical or related engineering degree, two to five years experience in product design, test or development and be proficient with three dimensional modeling software such as AutoCAD Inventor.

In addition, proficiency with PC based design tools such as TK Solver, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project are also required. The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and the ability to work well with others in a multiple priority environment is also essential.

Some travel is also required.
