Vaccination Status and Emergency Temporary Standard

November 15, 2021

Update on Incentive:
As of November 10, our COVID-19 company-wide vaccination status is 60%. Thank you to those who received the vaccination and submitted your cards to us. While that moved us in the  right direction, we did not meet our goal of a 75% vaccination rate of all employees by November 5. Therefore, we will have no drawing.

Update on the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS):
Many of you may have heard that OSHA issued an ETS for COVID-19 vaccination and testing. This ETS applies to all private employers of 100 or more employees. Although private employers may mandate the vaccination pursuant to the ETS, Muncie Power Products has chosen NOT to mandate the vaccination. Because we respect every employee’s choice about COVID vaccinations, leadership has decided to incur certain extra costs and administrative burdens associated with not mandating the vaccine.

Below is an overview of the ETS requirements:
Requirements by December 5

  • Verification of vaccination status of each employee—vaccinated or unvaccinated.
  • Unvaccinated employees must wear a face mask covering (made of at least 2 layers and worn over nose and mouth) indoors or in a vehicle with others for work purposes. Muncie Power Products will supply the required FDA, 2-ply, surgical masks.

Requirements by January 4

  • Unvaccinated employees must be tested weekly and present a negative test in order to report to work, in addition to wearing a face mask. As we continue working on our plan and policy, we will update you with logistics on testing.

Over the next few weeks, Muncie Power will be working diligently in order to comply with OSHA’s ETS, and we need your help. Human Resources will be reaching out to you in the near future if we do not have your vaccination card that shows you are fully vaccinated. Further, we understand there will likely be a lot of questions and uncertainty with regard to the ETS and what may unfold over the next few weeks and months. In fact, the ETS is being challenged and we do not know the outcome; in any event, we must act and plan for the implementation dates noted above to be in compliance with the ETS. As we solidify our plan and policy, we will hold informational and Q&A sessions for all employees. You can anticipate this communication will be one of many, and we promise to keep you updated and informed. While we understand the ETS provides some challenges, we will navigate it together. In advance, we thank you for you cooperation.
