Immune System
March 30, 2020
Our immune system is probably the most important resource we have for taking care of our health. There are many pieces that play a role in its longevity—and many pieces that can be taken for granted. It can’t be emphasized enough the power of taking care of your health. At a time where we are needed to be at our best in the most uncertain time, be sure to pause and know that taking care of your health, means you are also taking care of your family, friends, and loved ones.
- Stay active: exercise, practice meditation or yoga, enjoy a walk or body weight exercises
- Eat nutritious meals: balanced meals of fruits, vegetables, proteins, fiber, fats, vitamins, and minerals
- Sleep: let yourself get the necessary rest in order to make decisions, problem solve, and have the energy to be creative during challenging times
- Avoid unnecessary outings, especially ones that may put your health at risk: follow the guidance of local, state, and national authorities
- Keep yourself safe: reduce exposure to potentially hazardous situations and environments
- Stress management: stress can wear us down affecting our sleep, food, and decision making (while it is inevitable, try to manage your stress with positive coping mechanisms)
- Maintain personal hygiene: wash your hands, sneeze/cough into your elbow, keep your shoes at the door, maintain good social distance, and sanitize frequently used surfaces
